What is the purpose of the study?

Information packages will be sent by mail to study participants. The packages will include information about sleeping pills and other ways to get a good night’s sleep. The effect of the information packages on how sleeping problems are managed will be tested.

Screening and Study Registration

Once you know that you may be eligible to participate, the next step is to speak with a member of the research team to complete the screening process. You will be asked a few more specific questions to determine your eligibility.

What is involved?

As a study participant, you will speak with a researcher on the telephone on 2 occasions. The first interview happens a few days after you enrol in the study and the second takes place 6 months later. There are no in-person visits.

How long is the study?

Each of the 2 interviews takes approximately 60 minutes to complete. Interview time can be made shorter by responding to some questions online rather than over the telephone.

Who is the study for?

The study is for residents of New Brunswick who are 65 years of age or older that regularly take sleeping pills. This study is specifically inviting people who take one of the following medications for sleep:

Who is conducting the study?

A team of researchers from Dalhousie University, University of New Brunswick, and University of Montreal are conducting the study.

If you are eligible to participate, the next step is to complete the study consent form with the research team to enrol in the study.
